Ready for the Indoor Season? Your Quick Competition Checklist

A new indoor season brings fresh goals, exciting competitions and plenty of early mornings. Before the next show, a few simple preparations can help make the journey feel effortless. Here is a quick reminder of what to have ready before you set off.

1. Plan your journey

Confirm your competition schedule, arrival instructions and parking arrangements. Save the address, allow time for loading and check the expected weather along your route. When travelling to a new venue, it is worth checking any specific access information for horse transport vehicles.

2. Get your equipment organised

Prepare your tack, grooming kit, competition clothing, rugs and spare essentials in advance. Keep the items you need first within easy reach, and make sure everything is stored securely for travel. A simple packing list can save time on busy show mornings.

3. Make the horse area ready

Before loading, take a moment to make sure the horse compartment is clean, comfortable and ready for your horse. Set up the partitions and any equipment according to your vehicle instructions, and ensure that access and ventilation are unobstructed.

4. Check your everyday travel essentials

As with any journey, check fuel or charge level as applicable, tyre condition, lights and the relevant dashboard indications. Keep your vehicle documents, contact details and any required horse paperwork together. Follow your vehicle handbook and local transport requirements.

5. Think about the shorter days

Indoor competitions often involve early starts or late returns. Pack a torch or portable light, have warm layers ready and keep your phone charged. Small details like these make arriving, unloading and heading home more convenient.

6. Keep your horse’s routine familiar

Prepare water, forage and any familiar travel essentials appropriate for your horse and the journey. Plan breaks and care around your horse’s individual needs, and follow professional guidance where required.

With the essentials prepared, you can focus on what matters: your horse, your performance and the experience ahead. Wherever the indoor season takes you, we wish you safe travels and a successful show season.
